My initial career was focused on the detection and control of pesticide residues in food working with the UK Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food and then in the context of development issues with the Overseas Development Administration ( now DFID). A move to a position with the UK National Accreditation Body (UKAS) gave the opportunity to build an indepth knowledge of the application and assessment of the key international Quality Standards (ISO 9001 and ISO 17025) and build up an extensive world wide network of contacts in the food control area. The management of the implementation of these Quality Standards for the Food and Environment Research Agency.was my next career move. My present position involves the implementation of the global inspection quality standard ISO 17020 into the work of the UK Government Animal and Plant Health Agency APHA.
