Councillor in Royal Borough of Greenwich and Deputy Leader 2018-2020; Cabinet member 2003-5 and 2014-20. KPMG Director of Public Policy until December 2015, co-ordinating engagement and development of public policy to support the firm's values, reputation and business. From 2002-11 was also Co-ordinator of its Global Regulatory Group. Since 2002, specialised in public policy analysis, local government, KPMG’s London profile and regulatory developments. Represent KPMG on the Transatlantic Business Council (TBC) Policy Committee where I had co-led the Capital Markets Working Group. Co-ordinated KPMG’s first Transparency Report and its position statement “Sustaining Confidence in Global Capital Markets.” Member of the City UK's International trade & Investment Group and co-ordinated arrangements for the 2006 Global Public Policy Symposium bringing together the world’s leading investors, regulators and audit firms. Secretary of the Indo-UK JETCO Accountancy Task Force (UK side) and member of London First Migration Advisory Group.Following a distinguished political and business career in the Labour Party culminating in serving as the party’s Assistant General Secretary, joined KPMG’s Public Services Consulting in 1999 where he led KPMG’s e-government team working on UK online and across the public and private sectors as well as authoring some leading research on readiness for e-government. A London Borough of Greenwich councillor from 2002-06 and again from May 2014, also serves as a governor at two London state schools (including time as Chair from 2008-10).     The CMWG of TABD has led the campaign for a transatlantic alignment of regulation; adoption of G20 and international standards and where alignment is not possible; equivalence or mutual recgnition. It has made significant progress on the dropping of the reconciliation requirement for accounting standards in financial reporting; the reduction of SEC deregistration criteria and allowing broker-dealers to trade either side of the pond. But post-financial crisis, CMWG has tried to caution against protectionism and unco-ordinated or extra-territorial regulation.
