I am David Thomas Gault FRCS, Consultant Plastic Surgeon. I have been a Consultant since 1991, having graduated from Edinburgh University (MB ChB 1977). I held National Health Service appointments at Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood, Middlesex and The Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street until my retirement from the NHS at the end of March 2006. My private practice is based in and around London.I trained in Plastic Surgery in London, Paris, San Francisco and Tokyo. I have an active research and teaching programme, and regularly lecture in the UK and abroad. I became a Visiting Professor in 2004. In a project with the Swansea Institute, I developed the depilation laser which is now in use worldwide. I also developed the Ear Buddy, a tiny splint which corrects prominent and deformed ears at birth, again in use worldwide. I devised a procedure to flush out chemotherapy leaks to prevent them causing localised tissue death (extravasation injury). I am a member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and the European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS) and ISAR, the International Society for Auricular Reconstruction. I act as an Editorial Reviewer for the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery. I have published over 160 papers in British and international journals, and am a regular contributor to books on Plastic Surgery. My main interest is in aesthetic surgery, especially of the ear, breast and face, autogenous and Branemark ear reconstruction and laser surgery. About one third of my patients are children, about one third women and one third men. Almost one third of the ear surgery I undertake is to correct surgery which has failed in other hands. I undertake medical negligence and personal injury work, but not criminal cases. I have completed over 1000 reports, including cases fought in the American courts.
