David Gawith is a natural resource economist specialising in multidisciplinary environmental and climate change research. He recently completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge, where he studied under a Woolf Fisher Scholarship. His thesis focused on the economics of climate change adaptation. While completing his PhD, David worked as a Consultant for the OECD exploring the coherence of policies addressing climate change mitigation, agriculture, and ecosystems. He also worked as a research consultant on a project evaluating of the costs of flooding in Sierra Leone, and co-authored a policy brief exploring the potential for an ecosystem services approach to land policy in the UK post-Brexit.Before starting his PhD, he conducted research into the impacts of climate change on water availability in New Zealand, the determinants of water stress vulnerability among rural communities in Nepal, and the economics of ecosystem-based adaptation to climate risks in Fiji. David has published papers in physical science, social science, economics, and development studies journalsIn parallel with his research interests, David holds an active interest in international climate change politics. He has been following developments in the international talks under the UNFCCC since 2012. He attended the 18th and 19th UN climate change conferences and worked as an editor for a policy-focused newswire during the Paris climate talks in 2015.
