Responsible for overall Program Management of a 2 year, $500K multifaceted R&D ITAR program for the US Army MANTECH program which focused on reducing the manufacturing cost to produce 2-piece injection molded Free-Form Prism Eye-Pieces for use in Helmet Mounted Displays.Prepared technical reports and power point presentations for submission to the designated US Army MANTECH program manager which described the work done and the results achieved for each of the the specified program milestones.Developed secondary processes and /or fixturing for de-gating, thin film AR and beam-splitter coatings, optical assembly / bonding, final machining and blackening / light blocking used in the production of Free-Form Prism Eye-pieces. Conducted environmental and performance tests on individual components and eye-piece assemblies and reported the results as defined in the statement of work. Also provided daily production support for existing product lines to trouble shoot and resolve manufacturing problems as they arose. Worked with quality department to complete CAPA reports as needed.

Provided part-time process engineering consulting and research. Primary focus was on microstructured tooling and polymer replication processes used to produce embossed or molded plastic optics and optical films.• Provided Input on process equipment design and specifications.• Assisted in the selection of plastic molding and embossing equipment.• Provided input on material selection and processing conditions.

I was responsible for the development or improvement of the equipment and manufacturing processes used to manufacture many of the optical products that we manufactured (acrylic and PC Fresnel and micro structured lenses and PET / PC based optical films). This included manufacturing process R&D (in the areas of plastic compression molding and bonding, film converting, and seamless microstructured optical tooling sleeve fabrication); identifying commercially available molding and film converting equipment, modifying / improving new and existing equipment as well as developing any special machinery or fixturing needed to produce these products. I also worked closely with production personnel and manufacturing technicians to establish the specific process parameters to be used with this manufacturing equipment in order to produce the desired product or process outcome. I was also responsible for writing work instructions and providing equipment operation training as needed. Lastly, I was involved with establishing the quality controls needed to ensure that the dimensional and cosmetic requirements for each of these products were closely monitored.As it pertains to the above, I was responsible for the project management of each of these product manufacturing and process development projects. This included the identification and engagement of the necessary resources (internal and external), establishing project timelines and cost estimates, as well as maintaining overall project control to ensure the projects were on time and within budget.From time to time during my 26+ years I filled the roles of Manufacturing Engineering Manager and Production Supervisor while maintaining my engineering responsibilities.On two occasions I was the Project Manager responsible for assembling and leading teams of engineers, technicians and skilled trade sub-contractors in the relocation of clean room housed manufacturing lines from one facility to another.

Provided direction and guidance to tool designers with concept phase of new tools and equipment (jigs, fixtures, special machinery) for the production, assembly and testing of electromechanical relays and sensors used in automobiles. Maintained overall control of design projects from concept through build and installation. Selected components, suppliers and fabricators for design and build. Established project time lines and cost estimates. Composed machine operation instruction manuals Participated in new product “design for manufacture” meetings.
