I have worked for myself for the majority of my career and have acquired a broad range of skills and experience. My work and life experiences contribute to a well-rounded and mature personality. I’m energetic, enthusiastic and adaptable; I’m a great communicator, I love problem solving and relish new challenges.I have two Masters Degrees:Mechanical Engineering 2:1 (hons) - The University of Sheffield, 1999Building Surveying Distinction (University College of Estate Management, 2024I have worked as a mechanical design engineer for BAE Systems. I ran my own successful retail business for many years and most recently I have become involved in property renovation - living the "Homes under the hammer" dream.As an engineer I was Mechanical Design Authority on a major project and involved in many aspects of design, and development from initial concepts through to prototype manufacture and environmental testing. My retail business had two branches and an e-commerce site, and over ten employees so I am well used to balancing many demands on my time. I have extensive experience of everything from sales and customer service to buying, cashflow and human resources.Throughout my life, I have maintained an interest in property design and maintenance. Property renovation has provided an opportunity to apply the skills I have learned and profit from them.I am particularly interested in the environmental impact of the built environment, and my dissertation on the viability of 5th generation district heating and cooling in decarbonising UK housing stock was awarded a 2024 UCEM "Sustainability Research Prize".
