As a Field Service Technician with Vinson in the North Texas area, I work in a variety of environments: Power Plants, Gas Yards, Chemical Plants, Refineries etc. I work on all types of control valves, isolation valves, and their actuators. From repairing existing units or installing new assemblies, to retrofitting existing units with modern or upgraded accessories we do it all.

I transferred from Emerson's factory in Sherman into the Lifecycle Services branch of the company in Pasadena, TX. I was able to use my experience from my new assembly position to quickly adapt to the service side of the business working on not only Fisher valves, but Vanessa, CCI, Valtek, and Masoneilan valves as well. I progressed through Emerson field training quickly passing level one training and recently have passed level two training, which usually takes several years, but with my background I managed in just a year and half. I have worked in the shop, power plants, and refineries during single day jobs as well as long shut downs as a field technician working alongside electricians, pipe fitters, operators, and all sorts of other personnel. Prior even to being a level two technician, I already had an in depth knowledge of advanced diagnostics of both pneumatic and smart positioners. However, I have gained more knowledge and different avenues of diagnosing valves based on observed behaviors of their actions.

During this time at Emerson, I worked as an assembler producing new Fisher Valves and components. I became very proficient at assembling, troubleshooting, and testing these units. I worked in every area of the assembly process in the Sliding Stem, Rotary, and Baumann assembly areas. In each of these areas, I quickly learned the intricate parts of each sub unit to the valve I was working on whether it be the actuator, the valve body, or the instrumentation that was installed onto the unit to automate the valve. I was soon requested to oversee special customer projects and be part of the training cadre where I developed training schedules and accompanying power points. I was also tasked with being the end of the line inspector due to my knowledge of the product and ability to quickly assess a valve for any mistakes that may have occurred during the assembly process. While working in the Sherman plant I came up with a process improvement and simultaneously a cost reduction that was proven to save the company approximately $85,000 a year.
