About David Gram
Originally from Toronto, I have approximately 30 years of experience as a theatre and opera director, actor, dramaturg, and playwright; with 18 years of experience as a teacher in higher education. Currently living in the Detroit-metro area, I am an Associate Professor of Theatre at Oakland University. I have held the position of Artistic Director for three theatre companies and an opera company. From 2013-2017 I was the Associate Artistic Director/Apprentice Program Coordinator for Theatre Aspen.In 2020, I co-founded with Kristina Riegle, Renaissance City Repertory Theatre, a Detroit-based organization that is dedicated to producing contemporary and classical stories from the global canon, while serving as an incubator for new work development.In April of 2024, my first book, "Contemporary Farce on the Global Stage: or, Serious Laughter" will be published by Routledge. Research interests include: modern and contemporary farce, contemporary musical theatre, Elizabethan and Jacobean drama, Shakespeare, new play development, and the genres of mystery, horror, and espionage onstage.
