Responsible for all financial-related functions for Columbian Mutual Life Insurance Company and affiliates (a New York domiciled life insurance company providing small face amount products including final expense, whole life, term and preneed), including 4 direct and 43 indirect reports spanning accounting, financial reporting, premium and commission administration, payroll, tax and internal audit functions.

Executive officer and Board member for two of Syncora's subsidiaries. Broad-based financial experience ranging from managing corporate-wide strategic initiatives to oversight of all financial-related matters.• Led finance readiness initiatives for a potential re-registration and new business, including preparation of quarterly GAAP financials, acceleration of the close process, commencement of quarterly earnings calls, the issuance of earnings releases, evaluation of the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls and establishment of an internal controls team.• Managed the successful and timely sale of Syncora’s insurance subsidiary for approximately $430M.• Led the process which successfully liquidated Syncora Holdings and resulted in the distribution of approximately $500M of cash to equity holders in a tax-advantageous manner.• Managed a finance transformation and build out initiative for an acquired subsidiary, which included hiring a CFO and supporting team, restating multiple years of historical financial data, the implementation of a new accounting system and performing an end-to-end evaluation, remediation and documentation of the financial close and cash handling processes.• Direct oversight of FP&A, including the review of underlying model assumptions and effectively communicating projection model inputs and results to the executive team, Board of Directors and the Insurance Department.• Drove the completion of a large-scale reinsurance transaction which successfully de-risked Syncora by ceding 90% of its par exposure. • Managed the relationship with the New York insurance regulator which led to the approval to pay down an unprecedented $1.1B of surplus notes and preferred securities over a three year period.• Implemented company-wide and finance department process improvements and efficiencies which resulted in a reduction of run-rate operating expenses of approximately 70% over three years.

Oversaw all accounting, financial reporting and tax matters. Responsible for the appropriate recording, disclosure, and implementation of new and complex accounting guidance and issues. • Released accurate and timely quarterly and annual GAAP and statutory filings for insurance and holding entities, as well as other company disclosures (e.g., earnings releases, quarterly financial highlights deck, statutory MD&A’s, and operating supplements).• Managed all tax-related matters including ongoing reporting, the filing of consolidated federal and state premium tax returns, and the preservation of Syncora’s $2.6B of NOL’s. • Managed various financial advisors, including external auditors performing annual financial statement audits, quarterly reviews, and various tax return preparation and filing services. • Played a key role in the due diligence, acquisition and integration of a toll road subsidiary out of bankruptcy and its subsequent disposition for over $200M.

Led audits of public and non-public, multinational property and liability, life and health insurance, reinsurance, and financial guaranty companies. Experiences included working on both growth stage and mature entities. Extensive experience with SEC and non-SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, broker dealer, and separate accounts), standalone GAAP reporting, agreed-upon procedures, statutory filings and Sarbanes-Oxley.• Achieved engagement profitability by managing audit teams in a productive and efficient manner which improved audit quality within budgetary constraints.• Assisted management in researching, understanding, implementing and applying new and updated technical accounting guidance.• Performed comfort letter procedures as it related to the issuance of debt and equity securities, including participating in due diligence calls with underwriters.• Significant involvement in learning and education initiatives, such as instructing and developing training courses, including those that qualified for CPA continuing education credit.• Active in many human resource activities, including recruiting, developing and retaining staff and dealing effectively with work/life balance issues.
