Lead Engineer/Technologist (Avionics Software Engineer)

Ge Aviation

Lead Engineer/Technologist:Developed VxWorks ARINC 653 compliant embedded software, firmware and requirements for the B767 Tanker, USAF C130 AMP and US Navy P8A aircraft Mission Processors in a strict DO-178-B environment.-Created MPC7457 VxWorks bootstrap and post boot system selection firmware, flight program data loader, and NVM driver for Mission Processor of the US Navy P8A aircraft. Work includes development of new device drivers as well as porting of device drivers and BSP.-Developed BIT fault insertion test environment for PowerPC based targets.-Ported VxWorks AE653 BSP from a PowerPC 7410 based VME board to a newer PowerPC 7457 based ARINC 653 oriented board. Also upgraded associated power-up built-in-tests (BIT) execution environment framework. Work included extensive use of JTAG debugger for board bring-up, BSP development and general debugging.-Authored Ethernet and bootstrap requirements and test cases for a MPC8270 PowerQUICC II based PMC module.-Documented software design and architecture documents for DO-178B Level A and Level B certification efforts.

Jun 2004 - Mar 2009

Embedded Software Engineer

Thermo Noran

Embedded real-time software and DSP firmware design, development, and test for x-ray photon detector signal processing, motor control, and power control embedded subsystems.Reduced chipcount and improved programmability of application board by modifying DSP boot loaders to replace EPROMs with existing IDE drive for boot image storage.Significantly lowered software development costs by seeking out and implementing a viable COTS long term memory solution to replace planned custom solution.Improved older Windows C++ application host software using Visual Studio and developed the associated host-to-embedded target communications interface for next generation hardware.

Apr 2000 - Dec 2002

Senior Design Engineer Ii

Hamilton Sundstrand Aerospace

Designed, developed and tested embedded real-time Ada 83 and assembly software for Boeing 767 primary electrical power generation and Global Express slat/flap control systems.-Upgraded low level software-hardware integration DO-178B tests using in-circuit emulators (Intel ICE, SuperTAP), logic analyzers, and avionics test equipment. -Performed HSIT (hardware-software integration) white-box fault injection testing by modifying overlaid areas of memory and controlling system boot or command loop operation timing via ICE. Created automatic and semi-automatic tests in this manner. 80186 target processor, watchdog timer interface, and DSP in-box functioning all had to be controlled.-Developed and debugged aircraft primary electrical power generation and flight surface control software.-Developed Ada flight software for EPGS BITE, voltage/current sensing, relay control, etc., and initially tested first on NGTS test stand, then at ESTA with IDG’s (generators) linked to spinning prime-movers (engine torque simulators) for systems level testing for design implementation feedback.
