I am a physicist specialised in nano-technology and x-ray scattering.My PhD focused on resonant- and magnetic x-ray diffraction of nano-patterned arrays, which can effectively be considered as two-dimensional super-crystals.I spent most of the time during my doctoral studies on developing a unified framework for simulating and fitting of the scattered signal of complex sample structures in a variety of scattering geometries. My research showed how resonant x-ray scattering is able to resolve the chemical and magnetic structure of patterned arrays on a nanometer resolution utilising scattering geometries like classical x-ray reflectivity (XRR), off-specular XRR, small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) and grazing incidence small angle scattering (GISAXS).I gained laboratory-based experience in terms of sample preparation (spin-coating, electron-beam lithography, etc.), sample characterisation (scanning electron microscopy), and conducting x-ray scattering experiments in both laboratory and at synchrotron facilities.I am also experienced in using genetic algorithms (differential evolution in particular). After a meta-optimisation of the algorithmic control parameters, I have used this optimisation technique for fitting the x-ray scattering of patterned arrays.I am further very interested in scientific programming, software development in general, software design principles, test-driven development, performance benchmarking and the like.
