Berend Bros. is an 80+ year old chain of 5 feed and farm supply stores across 4 counties in North Texas. In addition to retail operations the company has two feed mills and two fertilizer blending facilities, supplying bulk and bagged feed, fertilizer and seed products to commercial & retail customers, including many dairy and beef producers.

Member of the senior leadership team responsible for spin-off, start-up, and executive management of Forestar as a publicly-traded company (NYSE: FOR). At year-end 2016, Forestar was principally a real estate development company with over 50 projects included within its ownership of over 75,000 acres in 11 states and 15 markets. The company also had 1.5 million acres of water interests. I managed the development and implementation of the company's legal, compliance, human resources, internal audit, environmental, health & safety, and project management functions, with personnel and budgetary oversight for each of these areas. Areas of key responsibility also included SEC and stock exchange reporting & compliance, executive compensation, corporate governance, employee benefits, information systems & technology, and facilities.In addition, I worked extensively with the Board of Directors to craft meeting agendas and materials, and to implement best governance practices. I also provided legal advice to the Board.I retired in April 2017 when the company signed an agreement to be sold. Forestar is now a subsidiary of D.R. Horton, Inc. (NYSE: DHI), America's largest homebuilder.

Temple-Inland Inc. (NYSE: TIN) was a Fortune 500 multinational holding company with interests in paper, packaging, building products, real estate, and financial services. I held a variety of legal roles with increasing responsibility. Operationally, I served as one of four members on the Board of a joint venture company with manufacturing operations in two states. Temple-Inland separated into three distinct NYSE companies in 2007 and was acquired by International Paper (NYSE: IP) in 2012.I provided legal leadership and support for many acquisition, divestiture and joint venture transactions (including cross-boarder), real estate & timber transactions in support of 2.2 million acres of land ownership, commercial and industrial contracts with vendors and customers, software licensing, patent and trademark matters, and other business affairs of a multinational company.
