I'm excited to be joining the team at Irwin Safety!

Over the years I have written and edited published work for various organizations including The Capital-Gazette (flagship newspaper for Annapolis, Maryland) the United States Naval Academy, and NASA. This work has included technical, journalistic and academic writing.

As part of the Shift Change team, I worked with businesses, advocacy groups and labour unions to get more women and gender-diverse people in Nova Scotia's construction & trades sector, to not only combat our labour shortage but to equitize the sector itself. Specifically, I developed and cultivated relationships with key stakeholders and exhorted the benefits of Shift Change's two flagship courses: We Are Trades, intended for management to provide the toolkit for companies to create their own DEI and safe workplace policies, and the Gender Inclusive Leadership course, intended specifically for male supervisors in a groundbreaking ten-week course. Unfortunately the position was grant-funded; so when the grant expired, so did the job.

I had the honour of working with top-level students as they prepared to enter Halifax-area universities. As such, it was my task to hone their English skills to university level, focusing on essay writing, debate and presentation. I think I learned as much as the students did!

As part of Aztek's Operations team, I was instrumental in completing residential solar installations through permit acquisition, documentation and scheduling. Additionally, I was the primary point of contact for any and all customer service needs, taking proactive measures to reduce customer outage times by an average of 40%.

In my time with 3F, I developed and implemented all outward communications strategies, publications and marketing to interface with investors, partners, clients and other stakeholders domestically and internationally. I also helped design 3F’s sales plan, helping gain new clients and boost revenue by over 400% by improving 3F’s online storefront, pitch decks, social media marketing, sales catalogue and marketing materials. Additionally, I led 3F’s creative team, coordinating and leading developments in web design, sales management, customer experience, product development to help raise annual sales revenue to $1 million. I led all interviews with employment & internship candidates, and finally helped create and implement pitch materials intended to help raise $2.5M in investment capital.

I researched, wrote and published profiles of leading companies for a leading Halifax-based publisher, with over 100 articles published in Construction in Focus, Business in Focus and Manufacturing in Focus. I continually demonstrated professional writing/editing and independence through publishing articles with little oversight required. I also demonstrated knowledge of B2B writing, technical writing, interviewing and professional communications.

I utilized my facilitation, presentation/public speaking and technical writing skills to help educate businesses throughout the HRM and beyond of the benefits of BlendERP and how it can make their operations smoother and more efficient. I demonstrated superior onboarding and enablement skills, as well as technical writing and highly advanced presentation skills. While I greatly learned a lot from this immense career transition, the position was terminated without prejudice due to a lack of work. But I learned a lot of valuable lessons, and am leveraging those to move forward!

I led classes at Halifax's top language institution, East Coast Language College. All classes were of course virtual due to COVID-19, but I was still able to give my students top-quality education even during these difficult times. This shows a great adaptation, technological fluency and patience as students worked to adapt as well.

Before and throughout the pandemic, I worked on a freelance basis as an English educator, helping students all over the world reach their English learning goals. This included resume preparation, interview practice and job coaching. Even during the coronavirus pandemic, I was able to move my lessons entirely online, demonstrating flexibility and creativity under unusual circumstances.

I tutored part-time, creating custom learning strategies to ensure students of all ages reach their educational goals and increase their confidence. I specialized in writing, reading comprehension and English as a Second Language.

I taught with an ESL start-up intent on helping international students studying in Halifax. Like my earlier classes, my lessons focused on practical speaking fluency and linguistic confidence, helping students better acclimate to life in Canada. I also taught courses on e-mail writing, allowing students to improve their writing skills as they completed their studies in Canada.

I assisted with financial transactions related to United Way's general campaign, demonstrated professional quality organization, attention to detail, multitasking and ability to work independently with little oversight required.

I worked freelance for a textbook publishing company. I wrote Alternative Text (or Alt Text) for textbooks, describing pictures and diagrams for visually impaired readers. I have written alt text on subjects including civil engineering, art history and cardiology, demonstrating professional independence, multitasking and deadline management.

I served as an editorial writer for an internationally-ranked Korean publishing company. This company mainly publishes ESL textbooks and materials to students of all ages and levels, and I perform all of their in-house editing. Over the course of my service, I also wrote and edited numerous activities and books designed for ESL learners of multiple ages and levels. Specifically, I worked on a book of ESL classroom activities, many of which include Total Physical Response (TPR), for Korean classrooms. I also wrote and recorded a series of over 300 ESL videos for distribution on the internet. These videos follow the lessons in the company's textbooks, and focus on practical speaking and reading. I also edited public domain English literature, and planned an ESL video series that focuses on these literary works. These works range from Sherlock Holmes to Shakespeare to Philip K. Dick.

Developed and led ESL classes for high school classes of over 30 students. Demonstrated knowledge of task-based learning and curriculum development through teaching of practical speaking, reading, writing and listening skills. Achieved a 12% rise in average test scores.

Developed and led ESL classes designed for intermediate-level ESL High School students. Educated students on practical English speaking and reading, helping students advance their own career prospects and eased their transitions to life in the United States. Demonstrated knowledge of task-based learning, leadership and curriculum development. Successfully raised cumulative student test scores by 15%.
