About David Carmer

I've been working in Computer Programming since 1986. It has been a challenge to evolve with the industry as software development has changed significantly in the last three decades. When I graduated from college, I coded in Ada on Ingres databases, but these days it's Java, Javascript, HTML, Python, and SQL. My roles have been Developer, Manager, Project Manager, Product Manager, and Professional Consultant. The joke I tell is that I've climbed up the corporate ladder and back down again twice. The fact is that I prefer a position where I'm not limited to management responsibilities. My preference is a job that is not easily defined, with a mix of coding, design, application work, graphic development, and presenting/communication.A diverse and inclusive workplace that adheres to the highest ethical standards is where I want to be, where I can contribute to a team that is engaged and excited about the software they're creating.

We developed software that collected data throughout the manufacturing facility in real-time through a variety of handheld and stationary devices. My job included coding, documentation, writing test cases, and performing installations. Travel to client sites was mostly in the United States. It was a small and highly specialized set of applications. Primarily, we developed in Pro-IV, Progress, Perl, and Java. There was some even more niche tech involved with respect to programming the devices in IRL and C. In 1999, I was promoted to the Leadership Team and relocated to Melbourne, Australia to open a new division. It was very successful but was as far as I could go with the small company. Show less
