David Haas is a Managing Director in Stout's Disputes, Claims & Investigations group and leads Stout’s Chicago Intellectual Property Practice. He has served as a damages expert witness in a wide array of litigation matters, including intellectual property (patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, false advertising) and general commercial disputes. With a background in engineering (two degrees as well as prior work experience) and over 35 years of experience in intellectual property damages determination, Mr. Haas is uniquely skilled in his ability to understand and communicate damages concepts related to complex technology. He has testified in Federal District Court on over 25 occasions and has also testified in state court and in arbitrations on issues including lost profits, reasonable royalties, unjust enrichment, price erosion, prejudgment interest, and other compensation topics, including determination of incremental costs, market share, and manufacturing and marketing capacity. Mr. Haas also has experience in determining the value of intangible assets, including intellectual property, for a variety of purposes, including licensing, mergers & acquisitions, technology management and commercialization, and tax planning.
