David Hadfield Work Experience Details
  • Bauer Media Group
    Interim Head Of Infrastructure (Uk)
Bauer Media Group Jun 2022 - Present
    Peterborough, England, United Kingdom
With the departure of my manager and with the ongoing work to work towards a new group wide IT operating model, I was asked to take over the responsibilities of Head of Infrastructure on an initial interim basis. The role includes the management of the budgets and teams covering Platform, Datacentre, Database and Cloud Enablement. Liaison with other teams and our business consumers, and involvement in a number of critical projects both local and group level.
  • Bauer Media Group
Platform & Datacentre Team Leader (Uk)
Bauer Media Group Jul 2021 - Jun 2022
    Peterborough, England, United Kingdom
Due to a number of factors including Covid-19 and it's impact on travel, it was decided to reverse the group work for a period, allowing time to review and revisit later. As an outcome of this I moved back to a UK only role, with me taking on the leadership of two teams, Platforms (Linux and Microsoft) and Datacentre (Networks, Hypervisor, Storage and Backup)During this time as lockdown ended we saw a number of staff leaving for other opportunities, this gave me a significant challenge to deal with, but also an opportunity to bring new people into the teams and revitalise them.
  • Bauer Media Group
Platform Services Team Leader (Uk & De)
Bauer Media Group Jul 2019 - Jul 2021
    Peterborough, England, United Kingdom
With a move to start bringing together the IT teams of the core Bauer territories I moved to become the team leader of the newly formed Platform Services team. This was the combination of the Linux and Microsoft services teams of the UK and Germany. The work within this time was to bring together the members of the team across the countries and to work together on as many common services as possible, as well as to identify those services which could be moved to a more common approach in the future. As a means to achieving all of this I also look towards an Agile inspired approach of project work handling to help the team members with their prioritisation.
  • Bauer Media Group
    Core Services Team Leader (Uk)
Bauer Media Group Jan 2018 - Jul 2019
    Peterborough, England, United Kingdom
With another evolution of the requirements of the business and therefore the service provision required. I was asked to take on the leadership of a new team combining the staff and services of the Digital Services Team, with the addition of the staff and services of the team covering our core infrastructure including networks, datacentres, storage and backup and linux support. This expanded the portfolio of subject matters as well as more supplier and internal business relationships to manage and improve.
  • Bauer Media Group
    Digital Services Team Leader (Uk)
Bauer Media Group Aug 2012 - Jan 2018
    Peterborough, United Kingdom
With a new drive toward digital products within the wider business alongside its existing Publishing and Radio pillars. The team was renamed and I was put in place as it's team leader.Managing the day to day work of the team, the projects within and the supplier and partner relationships, both technical and commercial. Our first large project was to migrate our hosting from a UK based partner to a company within Bauer based in Krakow Poland. Which we then worked with the development team to maintain and manage all associated services.Later I also led a push to make the wider infrastructure teams aware of the opportunities on the horizon from cloud based services such as AWS, and asking the team members to consider how we might make use of those services in the future.
  • Bauer Media Group
    Senior Online Support Engineer (Uk)
Bauer Media Group May 2010 - Aug 2012
    Peterborough, England, United Kingdom
Following the return of the team leader I continued my previous role and responsibilities but was given a more senior role which included the continuation of much greater involvement and shared ownership for projects and supplier relationships.Including work to consider if we could save the business money and improve services by relocating our hosting environment to another branch of the Bauer Media business in Poland.
  • Bauer Media Group
Interim Online Services Team Leader (Uk)
Bauer Media Group Apr 2009 - Apr 2010
    Peterborough, England, United Kingdom
Starting in April 2009 working in the position of Team Leader of the Online Services team as a secondment to cover the absence of the full time team leader while he was away working on projects. The role involved all of the day to day aspects of my substantive post but with the extra layer of leadership/mentoring responsibilities for the other members of the team and management of our supplier relationships. My time included a series of challenging issues, including staff being moved inward and outward to other parts of the business, migration of the whole team to a different parent department. Relocation of offices, recruitment/management of contractors and redundancy processes.I also gained the opportunity to spend more time in direct contact with internal senior management and building and improving relationships between the team and our customers/suppliers.
  • Bauer Media Group
    Web Support Analyst (Uk)
Bauer Media Group Aug 2006 - Mar 2009
    Peterborough, England, United Kingdom
This role actually began with a company called EMAP before it was later acquired by Bauer Media GroupThis role began as pure technical support (fault diagnosis and problem solving) along with liaison with clients and our hosting supplier. But through it's duration I became more involved in various projects which allowed me to demonstrate my abilities to organise, stay calm, and deliver under pressure.Over time this included take a lead on some projects and covering for the team leader when they were on leave. In 2008 I joined the project team working on the split of the web hosting environments for the two companies (EMAP and Bauer) which each took part ownership of EMAP PLCs (as was) businesses. Being involved in this project from a much earlier stage gave me a chance to be involved in every aspect from specification and procurement through to contractual negotiations and then planning, configuration and delivery.
