I have been programming for over 25 years, and i still love to code. I am passionate about using the best tools for the task, and for many jobs, this has driven me to use functional languages such as Lisp/Clojure, O'caml, Haskell, and Scala. I think these technologies are becoming increasingly relevant as code in these languages is inherently parallelizable, we are reaching the point of diminishing returns by making cores and computers faster, and are instead attacking modern programming needs with multiple cores and clusters of computers. With even cell phones coming with 2-4 cores, our tools need to support parallelism. Functional code is also typically a small fraction of the length of programs written in other languages, while being more robust and bug-free, as well as quicker to produce. Aside from my passion for functional languages, i have a deep interest in scalability, algorithms and data structures, high performance computing, and data mining and discovery.
