About David Harper
I led one of Durham University’s largest and most dynamic Colleges, Van Mildert. Based on an ethos informed by the College motto, sic vos non vobis (not for yourselves) there is a strong focus on outreach and volunteering together with the environment and student enrichment. I am a geologist and palaeontologist. My long-term research aims are focussed on the understanding of the origination and early evolution of animal-based ecosystems, their impact and relationships to climate and environments and their properties such as biodiversity and biogeography. Particular research focus areas include:The Cambrian ExplosionThe Great Ordovician Biodiversification EventEnd Ordovician extinction eventClassification and evolution of the phylum Brachiopoda.
