Researched various legal questions regarding an out-of-state tobacco distributor’s potential tax liability under Oregon’s Tobacco Product Tax (“OTP”). Developed and presented contracting attorneys with several meritorious arguments to avoid the Oregon OTP tax using well-developed areas of Supreme Court jurisprudence.

Aided a public employer in grievance arbitrations with their incumbent unions over various provisions in their collective bargaining agreement: drafted opening and closing statements, formulated questions for direct and cross examinations, and aided in witness preparation. Compiled documents for employee timelines, analyzed the entirety of the CBA, and drafted a precedent-setting post-grievance arbitration brief. Researched pending and newly enacted state legislation to determine the potential effect upon agency operations, and offered potential advice.

Researched complex questions of law and drafted briefs and recommendations regarding claims of Social Security, personal injury, civil rights, and employment discrimination. Coordinated the Baylor Jury Project with judicial staff, university officials, and private representatives to organize three mock juries; based on their deliberations successfully arbitrated a multi-million dollar breach of contract claim.
