Performed AIUI’s first full underwriting audit and pricing review of the Personal Property portfolio (previously embedded in Commercial Property), obtained approval from the FSA for Japan’s first variable rate long-term fire policy; introduced GLM-based ratemaking and profit scoring to the AIUI auto portfolio; introduced geodemographic segmentation and increased focus on digital marketing in the American Home portfolio; repositioned Korea’s Personal Lines portfolio, de-emphasizing Auto and leveraging the A&H direct marketing platform to build what is now AIG’s third-largest homeowners portfolio in the world.

Coordinated strategy and execution of business plans across 9 profit centers, while ensuring adherence to AIG underwriting philosophy and standards.

During the first 10 years of my career at AIG, I was a management trainee in New York (18 months); established the Personal Lines profit center in Brazil (3 years); turned around the Personal Lines portfolio in Mexico (2 years); was promoted to regional manager covering Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean (2 years); and then asked to relocate back to Brazil to manage the Southern Cone while exploring potential acquisition opportunities in Brazil (3 years). Key accomplishments: successfully managed the Brazil Auto portfolio through a three-year period of hyper-inflation (1989-1992); launched Brazil’s first Auto product with risk-based pricing utilizing customer characteristics (1990); launched Citibank’s first Auto product for in-branch sales with real-time quoting and point of sale policy issuance capability (1991); re-underwrote and re-positioned the Mexico Auto portfolio (1992); re-structured an Auto department into a Personal Lines Profit Center (1993); worked with Claims leadership to introduce AIG’s first Claim Service Guaranty in Latin America (1994); introduced Mexico’s first tiered Automobile product (1995); developed and launched Mexico’s first high-valued homeowners product (1995-96); developed the product, pricing and systems requirements and then launched Direct Auto through American Home in Brazil (1996-97).
