I am an award-winning investigative journalist. I previously led a new data team at CNN with an emphasis on investigative reporting. My work has helped to change policies and laws and has even led to criminal indictments.I’ve written about a broad ranges of issues, including the environment, scientific integrity, health research, financial scandals and terrorism. My work has appeared on PBS Frontline, PBS NewsHour, the CBS Evening News, the Huffington Post, The Atlantic, Time, Newsweek, the Daily Beast, Vice News, Scientific American and Mother Jones. My extensive reporting on Congressional earmarks was twice featured on Bill Moyers Journal. In 2018, I was featured in an episode of Netflix's Dirty Money.I've won more than two dozen national journalism awards, including the Goldsmith, the Gerald Loeb and George Polk. My work with others has been nominated for a national Emmy and I've been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize three times.I've taught journalism at the University of Washington and Harvard's summer school. I was a 2006 Nieman fellow at Harvard.
