Canon David Hermitt is an educational consultant based in Cheshire. David was one of the youngest secondary headteachers in 2004 leading an inner city Church of England School. He then became the first black secondary headteacher in Cheshire in 2005. He spent over 15 years as Principal of a high performing secondary school as well as founding chief executive of one of the largest Multi-academy Trusts in the North West. He was a founding Trustee of a Teaching School Alliance as well as the Community Education partnership. He is former chair of the Cheshire East School Forum. He is much in demand as a speaker, trainer, author and researcher.David is now leads a team of education consultants. He specialises in Governance, Inspection, school improvement and leadership support. He is passionate about improving governance, teaching, learning and leadership in schools. He is also carrying out research into improving racial justice as a doctoral candidate at Keele University. The team provides a wide range of services to support MATs. David provides onsite in the UK as well as internationally. David is a Christian, husband, father of four daughters, grandfather, basketball player, coach and bass guitarist. He was elected to the Church of England General Synod in 2022. He was installed as a canon of Chester Cathedral in July 2024. He serves as a trustee of several Boards including a Theological College in Birmingham. He can be relied upon to provide impartial support. He captained the GB over 55 basketball team at the European Championship in 2022, he has coached basketball since 1980s alongside playing at the highest level. He has played bass for a wide range of bands including orchestra, jazz and pop music. He is often found on Sundays at church as playing as part of worship.
