I was responsible for a team of staff and volunteers operating and maintaining the canal that runs from Chelmsford to Heybridge in Essex. During my first year I set up three new commercial operations for them generating an additional £40,000 of income. My role included health and safety, customer relations, and the procurement and general co-ordination of maintenance works by staff and volunteers across the 14 miles of tow path. I also delivered training courses on first aid and health and safety to the staff and volunteers.

Responsible for driving forward the success of a range of projects for the Regional Director using the Prince2 or similar methodology for successful project management. Utilising the existing SMT teams in the region and other resources available ensuring it gives value for money, balancing the demands of business, regulations, quality and safety. Ultimately the projects will aim to grow revenue and EBITDAR for the Ramsay Healthcare UK over the medium to long term by growing high quality cancer services offered to our patients.

I had responsibility for the day to day operation of the hospital. My key responsibilities included:• Leadership of the hospital senior management team and a Medical Advisory Committee.• Management of the workforce of 190 employees, 100 doctors, 60 bank and agency staff. This includes hearing staff grievances and disciplinary appeals as well as Professional Review Advisory Committees into doctor’s behaviour and any serious clinical incidents.• Formulation of business plans setting out strategic direction and development of hospital services within the operational framework set by the UK Board.• Delivery of hospital services to achieve the business plan objectives and annual EBITDAR targets which I grew by 23% during my five years as General Manager.• Monitoring hospital performance using Key Performance Indicators covering quality, financial, human resources and patient satisfaction.• Continuous review and improvement of the hospital services to ensure they are delivered in an effective and efficient way.• Formulate the hospital marketing strategy through which we achieved significant growth since I joined in 2009 with hospital admissions, revenues and earnings all growing despite challenging conditions in the private sector.• Ensuring constructive partnerships with the local NHS organisations such as Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group, Broomfield Hospital, Bupa and other private healthcare insurers, GPs and the local community. We often raise money for local good causes such as the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity.• Dealing effectively and personally with all hospital complaints.• Preparing and implementing with the senior management team action plans to respond to patient surveys, staff surveys, clinical incidents, financial issues and other performance needs of this busy and successful hospital.• As part of my role I would deliver monthly to new staff, induction training on a variety of topics and annual refresher training to existing staff as well

I was employed by Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust as Director on the Trust Board in a variety of roles between 2003 and 2009. As a Board Director I was responsible for Project Leadership and Management on a whole range of projects, such as• Our application to become a NHS Foundation Trust for which I was the Trust Board lead and which we achieved in May 2008.• Project Assurance of our Service and Cost Improvement Programme to repay a £15m deficit achieved in 2007 and on going for future years• Joint Venture Partnership approved by Trust Board in September 2008 to work with Anglia Ruskin University to create a world class laparoscopic training and research centre which opened in 2010• Commercial agreement to introduce the equivalent Agenda for Change terms for outsourced staff with the Trust private contractor. Introduction of the Essex Police Accreditation Scheme in the Trust to protect our staff and patients• Commercial and legal negotiations on third party operating franchises with the voluntary and private sector at the hospital.From December 2008 I was the Director of Service Delivery responsible for the day to day operational management of Trust services with a budget of over £160M, employing over 3000 staff. I undertook this role until a Director of Operations was appointed in April 2009 after which I was responsible for Service Improvement and Transformation, as programme director of the Trust Programme Management OfficeI was promoted to Director of Facilities, Development and Planning in 2006. On a day to day basis I was responsible for a £17M estates and facilities budget.I was originally employed by the Trust in 2001 as the Project Manager then promoted to become the Project Director responsible for the £200M Private Finance Initiative Project to Centralise Acute Services in Colchester.
