Managing the day to day operations side of the business from Order processing, Engineering, Purchasing, Stores, Production, Quality, HSE, Lean and Warranty I operate a highly enthusiast hands on approach. Being a Chartered Mechanical Design Engineer I enjoy driving the business forward through design and innovation of new products whilst also driving margin enhancements through value engineering and lean principles. I am heavily involved with customers at all stages of the product lifeline from creation to delivery and then supporting the product in the aftermarket.

GDUK operates as an installation facility for the mobile range of Gardner Denver engineered product. Gardner Denver are recognized throughout the world for producing market leading products whilst striving for continuous improvement in both their product and business. My current role encompasses managing the site, production, HSE, quality and lean, whilst also working closely with sales, engineering and purchasing to ensure the customer gets the desired product in the desired timeframe.

Operating as a small Design Consultancy for Automotive / Engineered Products. We offered a blue sky approach to product development, managing the concept creation, selection and development, right through to proto-type build and test. After a number of successful contracts we started to offer manufacturing and supply solutions as well. Family committments and relocation have forced a hold to put on this at present.

Wrightbus is currently the largest manufacturer of road transport systems for public service. They are recogonised throughout the world as a cutting edge and innovative company, who produce excellent, robust and reliable vehicles. Their current production output is in excess of 1000 units per year. Working within their Centre of Excellence Department, I have been heavily involved in the majority of the latest development projects. These projects vary from chassis design, driveline selection, hybrid integration, testing and prototyping to complete vehicle design projects. Timescales vary from 3 months to 2 years and budgets have been as large as £2 million. In addition to leading the development of these projects I have to implement the vehicles into the production line until ramp up is complete.Experience Includes:Management of design team, including prototype build, mould shop and production implementation.Management of budgets, timescales and achieving deliverables including performance and project expectations.Liaising with customers, suppliers and employees at all levels, discussing / developing specifications.Design of vehicle components in varying materials from steel and aluminium to fibreglass and plastic.Ensuring compliance to regulations which can be government, supplier or customer driven.Development of Lightweight chassis and driveline layout for optimised vehicle.Completing Personal Performance Appraisals and highlighting training requirements.

Transbus International, at this time was the largest manufacturers of road transport systems for public services. The Wigan site was a specialist division dedicated to the design and manufacture of automotive products. During my employment at Transbus I undertook a 3 month secondment to their Falkirk Office. Whilst in Scotland I carried out contract design validation and managed a design project on their vehicle.Experience Includes:Design of New products and components in conjunction with PSVAR, DDA & COIF regulations.Project Management of specific product developments, e.g. new low height Double deck vehicles.Liaison with internal Group engineers to ensure technology transfer and engineering best practice were propagated group-wide. Specifically chassis to body integration work with Dennis Bus, Guilford.Liaison with internal suppliers and customers through concurrent principles to ensure timely introduction of production components and engineering features.Developing designs embodying areas such as cost, availability, aesthetics, ergonomics and functionality within a defined time framework, including BOM structure & service history details.Developing a part numbering and BOM system with direct routing towards a computerised specification incorporating a product configuration and MRP system.All work completed and archived to ISO 9001.

Chassis Development and Design Projects.Interior Layout Development with regards to aesthetics and ergonomics, whilst maintaining the practicality and reliability of the vehicle.Cost, weight and time reduction projects, ensuring when completed the vehicle was still built to the same quality.Developed communication skills, which enabled me to deal confidently with engineers on similar levels as myself right through to directors of major companies, such as Transport for London, First Group and Arriva.Designed, developed and prototyped a cantilever seat arrangement for implementation in new vehicles.Developed an integral-wiring loom to suit all variants of entertainment and CCTV equipment. Now standard fit.Gained an understanding from the men on the shop floor and developed a trusting relationship with them, enabling me to fully appreciate the pressure they are under to deliver a safe, reliable and quality product whilst still meeting deliver targets.;

Integrated Services Design is a firm of Consulting Engineers and specialises in the design of mechanical and electrical engineering services. This was carried out as my placement year. I gained varying experience within this role and learnt how vital a team player is within a small company, as the tasks from day to day could sometimes be very different.Experience Includes:Designing new building services for both housing and large business properties.On-site meetings and problem solving, including signing off and official hand overs.Preparation of tender documentation.Drawing up properties from site visits and calculating heating and lighting values.
