Independent Commissioner with the Commission for Flags, Identity, Culture and Tradition, appointed by the First and Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland, appointed for an 18 month period which continued until a report was finally presented in July 2020. During this time I reviewed issues relating to display of flags, cultural contestation in Northern Ireland, cultural issues, education and a wide range of issues. Public meetings were held as well as delegations received and considerable and prolonged discussion within the Commission on the potential to alleviate cultural divisions within Northern Ireland. The Commission formally stood down in July 2020 after presenting a report to the First and Deputy First Ministers.
