How did we get here?? The year is 2008 and a 5 hour drive is a long time to think about what went wrong with your business. When you're a young home-builder, you don't consider the economy - Only what you should/could have done to prevent it. Only 33 years old at the time, I felt 100. Exhausted mentally & physically, I was actually GRATEFUL to have my entire life packed up in my SUV, headed from Nevada to Utah, wondering what I would do next. My entire life had been spent in construction. I paid my way through college by running my own business as a Contractor. Soon I found myself graduated and had to decide between med school and sticking with a lucrative business. Eventually I found myself running the family Design-Build Construction company. I was young, excited and learning the business side on the fly! I was good at it and our business increased 10 fold! These should have been the best of times! THEY WERE NOTIt turns out that doing everything yourself takes a lot out of you. I spent long hours trying to stay on top of everything, neglecting my own marriage and little kids until ultimately we ended up divorced. It was all unraveling and it was unraveling FAST. I had hundreds of people I worked with and talked to every day, yet I had never felt so ALONE.Then the housing crisis in 2008 hit. One of the things that I thought took everything away from me turned out to be my greatest blessing!Sometimes when we're forced to take a step back and re-examine ourselves we find our true calling. For me, I was able to shift my focus first to my family. I made a commitment to never let business get in the way of those relationships again.Next, I was able to focus on career. I found that I had a knack for helping business owners organize their businesses, to look at things in different and unique ways. Mainly, it was a focus on foundation (I love building metaphors). It turns out that when you're looking from the outside-in, it's much easier to help! As I built my consulting company and later business services my purpose became crystal clear: To help business owners become better at what they do so that they never have to experience the things that I did. I have a passion for talking with business owners. How can I help a company build a better foundation so they can run more efficiently while helping not just the owners but also those around them have better lives as well? There are a lot of us out there! By connecting us together in our community we can all make our lives easier. It doesn't have to be so hard and WE ARE NOT ALONE!
