I'm still teaching ESL, despite having returned to the UK, working mostly for Immersion UK. Those of you I met whilst overseas are more than welcome to get in touch with me now that I'm finally online. Sorry it took so long.I've got to say though.... after being away for so long I'm glad to be back home. I'll admit that there are far too many chavs on the loose, far too many blimps wearing tracksuits seemingly abandonned at bus stops and way, way too many people who look as if they were ejected from their council estate for terminal stupidity and anti-social behaviour......far too many......but even so....After living and working in countries where people expect to be paid a bribe in order to do their job, where being a foreigner means you are guilty of whatever you are accused of doing unless you pay a policeman to demonstrate your innocence, after driving in countries where people pay for driving licences (as opposed to passing tests), after living in states where failure to worship the correct loving and caring god can see you fined, arrested, imprisoned, beaten up, spat on or even stoned to death just so that someone can make an anti-western statement, you realise that life in the UK beats the pants off so many other places.For all those of you who love to bitch about the UK remember this; your wife won't be punished for reporting her own rape on the grounds that by doing so she is admitting adultery, the clerk in your local planning office won't demand $1500 dollars to stamp a document that the law says he has to stamp for free, your local residence office won't demand you produce forms to support your request for residency that cannot legally be obtained until after residency has been obtained, you won't be forced to pay for an examination or treatment when you arrive at hospital in an emergency and you're not required by law to carry an ID card on you at all times or face arrest and fines. The list is endless. Enjoy it...
