Fabrication and characterization of L10 materials for spintronics.We all need more space in our hard drives, longer battery life, and faster wifi. Spintronics has the solutions for all these issues and more! By developing new materials my PhD project has helped create spintronic devices that are well on their way to enabling a more connected future.Independent clean room lab work involved planning and executing series of experiments to produce novel materials and test their functional properties, generating actionable results for future work. My PhD also included experience of all aspects of nanotechnology, from chemistry to graphene and other 2D materials. Training included IP generation and the commercialization of research.Sputtering of L10 ordered magnetic thin films to evaluate and optimize their structural, crystallographic and magnetic properties. Transmission electron microscopy characterization, grain size analysis and Energy Dispersive X-Ray composition mapping. Sample preparation of delicate materials. Scanning probe microscopy and x-ray diffraction characterization of thin films.

Summer research project giving experience of scientific research. I carried out original work on novel variations of Atomic Force Microscopy, which was presented at the 4th Multifrequency AFM conference in Madrid. I learned the new skills very quickly, adapted to unforseen challenges and completed the work to a tight deadline. I was able to develop the scope of the project under my own initiative, including assembling, optimising and performing original experiments.
