In 2010, I was appointed as the inaugural Research Leader (Sport) at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Active Living (ISEAL). ISEAL was established at Victoria University (VU), in Melbourne, Australia, in January 2010. The institute aims to be a global leader in the universities recognised research strengths of Sport, Exercise Science, and Active Living. ISEAL is a “whole of university” Institute that brings together a critical mass of researchers from all of the universities faculties. ISEAL is supported by a world-class research infrastructure. Research facilities include a new $68.5 million building (completed February 2011) and are unparalleled nationally. Purpose-designed laboratories utilise high-technology approaches in the application of advanced instrumentation, precise and targeted manipulation of laboratory environmental conditions, multidisciplinary investigations from virtual reality to relaxation and to extreme stress, to enable discovery research ranging from the molecular level to the exercising human. World-class laboratories in exercise physiology, exercise biochemistry and molecular biology, biomechanics, motor learning and skilled performance, biofeedback and motor control. Senior staffing appointments in ISEAL includes six professors in 2010 and 14 postdoctoral fellows.
