Drug discovery detection and reagents applications scientist for all pharma, biotech, and academics in Pacific Northwest including South San Francisco pharma/biotechnology companies. Scientific support for all aspects of assay design, development, implementation, data analysis as well as any needed assay troubleshooting for all PerkinElmer and legacy CisBio Drug Discovery products and instrumentation.

Directly responsible for all aspects of clients' experimental design, assay development, implementation and data analysis across a broad spectrum of research and clinical assay technologies offered by Sirona Dx, including qPCR, sequencing, gene expression, signal transduction cell-based and biochemical assays.

Responsibilities include proactive technical sales support in collaboration with the sales team, training customers on NanoString’s nCounter instrument platform for both the SPRINT and GEN2 instruments, providing experimental design for all of NanoString’s assays as well as performing data analysis using our proprietary nSolver software. • Conduct highly technical presentations/seminars along with data analysis sessions with customers covering all of NanoString’s technologies, from gene expression to miRNA to 3D Biology, RNA:Protein:DNA and 3D flow cytometry• Worked closely with R&D at the Seattle headquarters to help produce and edit manuals and develop protocols as well as conduct hands on lab experiments as needed• Involved in training other FASs and new tech support personnel on a variety of NanoString assays and nCounter instruments processes• Achieved AOP in 6 of last 7 quarters while maintaining close relationships with customers in the PNW and Canada• Involved with alpha & beta-testing teams for a variety of new NanoString assays, included maintaining close interactions with customers, R&D and product management to continuously adapt to issues with initial experimental results, protocols and manuals• Directly involved in the launch of NanoString’s new 3D Biology platform• Became the “go-to” Sr.FAS that would assist other FASs as needed with these newly launched assays including presentations, hands-on lab work and troubleshooting advice

• Set-up and optimized G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) calcium mobilization assays to be compatible with Integral’s proprietary Structure Activity Mutation ArrayTM technology; data contributed to the funding of a $2.3M SBIR Phase II grant• Designed and cloned a signal sequence that dramatically enhanced GPCR expression and incorporation into Integral’s retroviral-based viral particles, called Lipoparticles, by over 10-fold, resulting in new sales to pharmaceutical companies• Devised assays to use Lipoparticles as a cell-free, fluorescent resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based, pathogen detection sensor for biodefense applications; SBIR Phase II pending • Developed a fluorescent, homogeneous, non-radioactive, Lipoparticle-based GTP-gamma-S assay to explore GPCR activation; awarded a $2.5M SBIR Phase II grant• Implemented a novel cloning system that drastically reduced the time required to clone a new receptor into Integral’s production plasmids from 3 weeks down to just 3 days• Developed fluorescent-based assays to determine GPCR surface expression levels and activation states for rapid analysis in 384 well format on the Alpha Innotech’s NovaRay

• Developed stable cell lines expressing problematic GPCRs for Novasite’s proprietary Flow Cytometry-based, calcium signaling assays for high content drug screening; data contributed to a $3.2M NIH grant to further develop GPCR-specific agonists and antagonists• Achieved all milestones and identified a new selective series of compounds as Project Leader of Novasite’s first 7,000 compounds, multiple GPCR, screening collaboration with Alan Binnie, PhD, at Sanofi-Aventis. Responsible for supervising 6 research associates• Lead scientist in charge of all aspects of assay development pertaining to Novasite’s anti-obesity program which screened Boehringer Ingelheim’s compound libraries (~ 20,000 compounds) against a mutation array of melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) expressing cell lines, discovering several previously unidentified active compounds• Devised a novel means to functionally express both of the Cannabinoid-family GPCRs, CB1 and CB2, using an inducible expression system, that allowed Novasite to achieve NIH funding for its anti-cancer program • Project Leader of Novasite’s anti-cancer program which identified several potent and highly selective CB1 and CB2 receptor agonists and antagonists in collaboration with John Huffman, PhD, at Clemson University• Demonstrated a unique pharmacological signaling profile for hetero-dimerized GPCRs using the mu- and delta- opioid receptors in collaboration with Lakshmi Devi, PhD, at Mount Sinai School of Medicine• Developed and optimized assay conditions to simultaneously screen whole receptor families, e.g., all Dopamine or Serotonin receptor sub-types, consisting of 5-10 cell lines, against a commercial compound library, to ascertain non-specific receptor activation that is a fingerprint of adverse drug effects

• Developed functional assay kits for novel GPCRs, marketed as Stratagene’s high-throughput screening product, ReceptoScreenTM. Responsible for supervising 2 research associates. • Interacted with pharmaceutical R&D clientele to develop both membrane and whole-cell functional GPCR assays for their specific screening needs • Pharmacological characterization, i.e., radio ligand-binding, calcium mobilization, EC50, Km and Bmax calculations of GPCRs in both membrane preparations and whole cell assays for pharmaceutical clients.• Genetically engineered Stratagene’s expression cell lines to increase both GPCR surface expression levels and the robustness of ligand-induced calcium signals for drug discovery• Investigated the use of colloidal gold particles as a fluorescent quencher in developing a homogenous, non-radioactive, time-resolved fluorescent, SPA-like radio-ligand binding assay
