I applied with Mearsk line shipping to become an Engine Cadet on their ships. After completing the training including fire fighting, safety at sea and first aid. My duties aboard the ship were as follows:• Performing regular reading of the various operation critical gauges i.e. fuel, fresh water and electrical generator. • Performing Watches in the Engine room during entering and leaving the port. • Monitoring engine temperature during operation and making cooling adjustments. • Assisting the 4th engineer with cleaning and maintaining the purifiers • Monitoring Boiler pH level • Performing soundings of fuel tanks to understand tank levels and fuel requirements• Doing regular fire alarm and safety checks
