David spent his formative years at McNeece, designing interiors for high-end cruise ships (P&O's Oriana), before moving into Retail and Brand design where he spent 7 years working on premium European projects with XMPR, Fitch and WPP Group companies.In 1999, he became Creative Director at Cobalt Consultancy (a large brand experience agency) where he headed a new Hospitality team, and won their first hotel project: City Inn Hotel Westminster. In 2002, he formed Proof Consultancy to continue the Westminster hotel project, bringing it to conclusion as the 2003 EHDA overall winner. Many hotel projects followed including renovating several of Accor’s Novotel flagship sites across Europe. Work also featured bars and a spa at the Landmark London hotel, and the UK’s first Pullman hotel at London St.Pancras where Proof showcased their growing prowess as interior architects with proven skills in remodelling ailing hotels.In 2011 David brought about a new phase in the company’s development, focussing on 5-star, luxury and upscale hotels. This led to Proof overseeing the massive overhaul of the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam, as it became the first of NH’s new 5star brand - ‘NH Collection’. Rebranded as Studio Proof in 2016, the company was then absorbed on one of London’s largest hotel refurbishments at the Royal Lancaster hotel (completion late 2018). The £85M project encompassed a new entrance facade, remodelling and increasing all public areas, remodelling some bedroom floors, 411 bedrooms and suites, 3no. F&B offers, and branding and signage packages.Studio Proof won an EHDA (now AHEAD) award in 2003 for City Inn Westminster, were Finalists for Best Hotel & Resort at MIPIM 2017, chosen as TOP UK Interior Design practice 2017 by NEWH, finalists at SBID 2018 awards for Best Hotel Bedroom, and David was amongst the judges of 2017’s WIN awards. Despite a pandemic sabbatical David has also been busy (working with Kenny Laurenson) developing a brand strategy process called Magnetic North, that is specifically tailored to hospitality, and which will be launched in 2022. David is now looking for the next adventure.
