Mr. David Johnson is a native of Warren, Michigan. He entered the Army in January 1984 where he served as a UH-60 helicopter pilot. As a helicopter pilot, Mr. Johnson served in various theaters of operations including Fort Campbell, KY, Honduras, and Korea. In 1992, Mr. Johnson completed the Aviation Safety Officer’s Course and returned to Fort Campbell, KY where he began his career in safety. In 1993, he went to Somalia and learned firsthand the importance of Risk Management. In 1995, Mr. Johnson was assigned as the Director of Safety for the US Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs. One of his most significant achievements during this time was the development of an automated safety management tool. Mr. Johnson’s safety automation skills were recognized by the US Army Safety Center and upon completion of his service to the State Department, he was assigned as the Chief of Data Management Division at the US Army Safety Center. In 2001, Mr. Johnson was assigned to Yongsan, Korea where he continued to evolve his safety management tools and concepts in support of Army safety. In 2005, Mr. Johnson retired from active duty service but remained with the Army working in safety management and developing safety management tools and concepts. Since transitioning to civilian life, Mr. Johnson has worked several diverse and challenging safety positions in the federal government ranging from safety director for several national parks in the western U.S. to operational safety director positions for the U.S. Army in California, Korea, Italy, and Germany. Mr. Johnson also served as the director of the Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory program at OSHA and as the national safety director for NOAA. In 2016, Mr. Johnson began working in his current position as the Director of Safety and Occupation Health for U.S. Forces Korea. Mr. Johnson holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Occupational Safety and Health from Columbia Southern University and a Masters of Public Administration Degree from American Military University. He is also accredited by the U.S. Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional.
