From a start in the construction industry as an architectural technician in practices who designed education buildings and private housing, through post university involvement with luxury homes, light industrial buildings, to highly specialised buildings, and commercial fitout design, the experience gained in New Zealand prepared me for the challenges to be offered abroad.The UK initially presented roles in fitout design, and site based design management for a children's hospital in Brighton. Following this a move to Ballymore Properties in London's Canary Wharf resulted in comprehensive site based project involvement on premium apartment and hotel projects over a four year period.With our son [Conrad] soon to arrive, we returned to New Zealand in 2009 to bring him into the world. Since being in the homeland, I enjoyed further career progression in Project Management with the Greenstone Group, based in Hamilton. Both the Design and Project Management skills honed over the years has resulted in excellent results for the projects that I've been involved with. Of which many have resulted in repeat commissions for Greenstone Group.After 6 1/2 years, and while I was not looking to move on, as Greenstone provide a great environment to work in, an offer presented itself that would provide new challenges and experiences. Conrad Properties were looking for a Development Manager, and after a couple of good discussions with their management, and some soul searching, the decision was made to move on. I've been in the new role since the 7th June 2016 working residential developments in Auckland's CBD. The apartment projects can be viewed on www.conradproperties.com. The first development I'm involved with is the new Queen's Square building on the old Real Groovy Records site in Queen Street; 238 apartments, 9 Retail outlets, designed by Leuschke Group Architects.
