Working at a boutique investment firm such as Glenmede has allowed me the opportunity to take ownership and have an immediate impact on many facets of investment management. While my current role centers around the day-to-day management of over $2.8B across 2 mutual funds and 1,400 SMA’s I have had the chance to be directly involved in a wide range of responsibilities that contribute to our end offering. I started on the desk in 2014 as a trader and in addition to identifying value in the marketplace I helped solve any systems or settlement issues that surfaced. I also expanded my trading knowledge to include multiple fixed income asset classes across both taxable and tax-exempt universes. Over time I consistently partnered with other areas of the firm including Investment Strategy, Manager Research, and Relationship Management to offer more detailed fixed income expertise. Communication regarding both macro fixed income as well as product level specifics has always been a cornerstone of my role through tasks such as external client meetings and presenting topical fixed income slides at companywide meetings.As my ownership role continued to evolve I have been a driving force behind process improvement, new strategy development, and executive level communication including presenting directly to the CEO, President of GIM, and Mutual Fund Board. In the time that I have had a portfolio management role relative performance to the benchmark is positive over 1, 3, and 5 year periods. SMA dispersion has been reduced by half and funding time has been reduced by 75%. I have had a direct role in rolling out multiple new strategies created to satisfy client demand. New offerings include multiple tax-aware hybrid solutions that offer a more efficient allocation to taxable investors by utilizing the ability to allocate to taxable securities when they offer greater tax adjusted yield. As satisfying as all of the improvements to our offerings have been perhaps the best part of the job is working with clients to create better fixed income solutions tailored to their specific needs.
