Profile bio

About David Kapp

I'm a research engineer focusing on avionics cyber vulnerability mitigation and protections. My passion is building biologically-inspired adaptable and resilient cyber protection systems. I'm currently researching biological viruses and how they antagonize the host immune system, as well as how the human immune system recognizes and attacks viruses. I am exploring the functional equivalence between biological and computer viruses so that the progress made and capabilities used in biological research may be leveraged to detect avionics malware.Adaptable protections that change and optimize in real-time as a function of learned information will be critical to avionics survivability and mission success. As a result, I also study the human brain and believe that understanding how the brain senses, perceives, learns and adapts to external stimulus offers our best chance of success in developing protections that can withstand zero-day attacks and supply chain exploitation. I'm trying to understand the brain from an engineering perspective and extract important principles in order to build synthetic systems that mimic critical properties and functions of the brain. A few years ago, I studied sub-neuronal structures called microtubules as a basis for building adaptable hardware and the possibility of developing innovative cognitive computational architectures based on electromagnetic communication in the brain. I believe the systems we will ultimately end up building will likely be a hybrid of neurologically-inspired and traditional hardware, taking advantage of the strengths of both approaches.

Listed skills include Software Engineering, Security, Dod, C++, and 25 others.
