David Kavanagh is an emeritus professor at Queensland University of Technology. He has adjunct positions at The University of Queensland and the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, University of NSW, and has also been a member of the Queensland Mental Health and Drug Advisory Council since 2016. Past positions have included Research Capacity Building Professor (QUT), Director of Research, Faculty of Health (UQ) and head of the Psychology Department, University of Sydney. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, has received many awards for his research, and has been on many other expert advisory committees to state and federal governments. His most recent research has been on the dissemination of digital mental health services and on motivational imagery. Past research has included randomised controlled trials on a wide range of issues for health and well-being, with particular emphases on treatments for addictions and co-occurring disorders, and on treatments that are brief or delivered remotely. Other work has included theoretical and review papers and laboratory experiments.
