Domestic abusers are prohibited from buying or possessing guns under federal and most state laws. Research has demonstrated that taking guns from these individuals reduces the incidence of intimate partner homicide. Yet most communities do not implement strategies for carrying this out. I have developed a protocol that can be used in most places to effectively remove guns legally from abusers. I have assisted many communities develop protocols. New Mexico, Colorado, Wisconsin have all adopted statewide protocols. Other communities, like St. Paul, Minnesota or Harris County, Texas, have local procedures.I have a combined total of 29 years of courtroom experience. It is this experience that drives the direction of the protocols that I have developed.
