As Global Head of Legal for the Investment Services division of State Street, David manages a team of ~75 legal professionals across the Americas, EMEA and APAC. Over the course of his 30-plus year career in the financial services industry, David has developed a broad range of knowledge and experience in practice areas ranging from banking, global custody, trust/fiduciary services, fund administration, investment accounting, TA/shareholder services, middle and front office services/technology and regulatory compliance and reporting, across all client segments and asset classes and numerous domestic and international regulatory regimes. David acts as a trusted advisor to executive management on a broad range of topics, including risk management and remediation, regulatory compliance, market practice, deal terms and structures, and legal strategies to achieve complex business objectives. The business values David’s analytical skills and creative problem solving, together with his principled, yet pragmatic and commercially oriented approach to meeting business needs.David has played a leading role in structuring and negotiating some of State Street’s largest acquisitions, outsourcing deals, market entry transactions and business transformation initiatives during his tenure with the firm. He has helped deliver over a billion dollars in incremental revenue and cost savings by assisting State Street to successfully develop new products and services, enter new markets, onboard new clients and transform its global operations location strategy and footprint, including establishing new business lines and operating companies across the globe. In addition to his current management responsibilities, David has trained and mentored countless lawyers in the US and Europe, including those now in senior leadership positions across the industry, with an inclusive and transformational leadership style. The legal teams he has built and managed have consistently been the most diverse at State Street in terms of both gender and race.Prior to joining State Street, David was a corporate associate at the law firm of Sullivan & Worcester in Boston, Massachusetts where his practice focused on U.S. and offshore investment companies, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, corporate governance, securities reporting and compliance and general corporate matters for publicly and privately held clients in a range of industries.David holds a Juris Doctor degree from Boston University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political theory from Vassar College.
