I'm a software engineer with the knack for untangling complex problems with technology, particularly focused on the Microsoft ecosystem including c#, .Net, SQL . In my previous career as a civil engineer, I got frustrated with the slow speed of thinking and lack of growth/change among the wider industry and used technology as my overflow valve for my creativity and desire to learn. That, and some enthusiasm, eventually turned into being "the guy" who drove those teams towards adopting technology, including managing a dedicated digital development team.I've worked with databases, web development, geometrical manipulation, documents and 3D environments. I thrive in small-team environments because of my enthusiasm, knack for sparking conversations, and adeptness at navigating ambiguity & vagueness in briefs and turning them into good propositions, prototypes and products. What sets me apart is a unique learning path and diverse experience, providing a fresh perspective that's able to review the evolving tech landscape.

Career Break / RetrainingSelf-Employed Mar 2023 - PresentI'm currently pursuing a .NET & C# focused development stack of competencies of software development. I've completed a variety of projects using technology such as the Unity game engine, Blazor client & server applications, restful API principles, SQL & entity framework database familiarity. I'm also learning some python and javascript as I find that there's useful libraries that can be incorporated from each of these with some calls. My completed projects include: - an e-commerce site using the blazor framework including hosting a database, server & client applications consuming a restful API, - a calculation tool that supports factory planning in a popular automation game - a WPF frontend & SQL database that can be used to organise a tournament. - a deck-building game coded with a frontend entirely in console - a personal websiteMy sources of inspiration are online-tutorials to gain context for tech stacks and applying the and other small needs in my life. I also enjoy programming parametric geometry to support designing my woodwork projects.Recently, I've started publishing my work and sharing it with communities.

Principle ConsultantRamboll Jul 2019 - Apr 2023Ramboll is an large engineering consultancy the provides design for the built environment. I worked within the UK buildings engineering design function, which had 200 staff in 10 offices.I Started at Ramboll as a Principle (Senior) Structural Engineer working on the burgeoning sector of Offsite and Digital Engineering offers. My role expanded to masterminding proposals for digital maturity amongst this business unit.I headed an effort to create and distribute scripted workflows, evaluate new tech, standardardise data reporting dashboards, using dedicated in-house development teams & sprints into initiatives that improved our digital portfolio. The main topics of development, were parametric engineering automation, and data-lead reporting capabilities. I also planned training, and was a source of advice for both in-house knowledge and for client-facing our capabilities for their projects; and as well as acting as a sort of librarian and central coordination point towards our digital offerings. The efforts of my weird little unit were widely credited within the organisation as "spearheading a culture of self-development amongst our staff" and "improving our potential market offering. -
Senior Structural EngineerBryden Wood Aug 2016 - Jul 2019Chancery LaneBryden Wood is a technology-focused architecture and construction design engineering firm in London. Their projects are of a micro-detail-exacted design not typical of design consultancy firms. The company also promotes the uptake of new methodologies in construction through messaging via several case studies and open-source white papers. For my part, I was one of the senior structural engineers of the firm, primarily offering solutions and analyses to the top directors, managing small teams of junior engineers and convincing our clients that our unashamedly, optimistic owners, for all of their fanciful ideas; did at least also employ competent engineers.I had a range of novel engineering solutions to solve; for example, designing a medicinal inhaler factory for explosion containment, or incorporating prestressed technology into a unitised cladding solution. Such problems are usually shied away from other lead project engineers as they don't fall within the purview of routine guidelines. Our approach, was to learn these complexities so we had control to deliver the best product we could. My biggest contribution was towards the development of platforms building systems- building systems made of a kit of parts engineered to suit offsite manufacturing. For context; most construction is overbudget and overschedule because it's bespoke-made with a combination of low-mechanised solutions and lots of on-site labour to join together the missing connections in the design. Comparatively, our goals were to reimagine construction with principles of a factory assembly-line; where connections and assembly were pre-thought so it just works when building. This wasn't just high-minded thinking. An example, that I designed with our office-building system: Sumner Street- a full scale of office tower in operation in London. -
Structural Project EngineerWaterman Group Sep 2015 - Jun 2016I worked for a short period of time for Waterman group on a number of Mid Rise Commercial developments; mostly offices important to the growth of central London. -
Engineer (Structural)Aecom Jul 2011 - Jul 2015My first professional role was as a project Engineer and primary Liaison for Civil and Structural Information for low rise commercial developments. I gained valuable experience, including a secondment on site, and the majority of the linked-in skill set for which I credit myself today. I also learned on some of my most challenging work the value of ones own self-efficacy to get things done how one can see best, but to temper that initiative with stealing good advice from experienced colleagues. Valuable communication skills were gained where I became in charge for day to day running of my own projects. I took on board client meetings and so understood their pressures and needs, relayed it back to our team and so collated our resources to meet the very same.
