My focus is in Medicinal Chemistry at Rhodes University with primary objective of contributing to the development of new chemical scaffolds with potential further development as medicaments. Gained experience from University of Cape Town, and later joined GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Tres Cantos Campus Madrid (Spain) and iThemba Pharmaceuticals into the position of scientist. Currently establishing a research group in the Department of Chemistry, Rhodes University, that will compliment existing platforms, e.g. H3-D_UCT, Rhodes Centre for Chemico- and Biomedicinal Research, in areas of Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV-AIDs, and Occupational health diseases. Long term goal is to strengthen (through working together with other African and international scientists) the capacity in Medicinal Chemistry within South Africa such that there is a great value in investing into basic research that can be translated into commercial products (e.g. medicines to deal with health related problems). My emphasis is on the projects that will enable our laboratory build capacity in translational research.
