Installation, Turn-up, and Testing of Fiber Optic Network Components

Responsibilities include maintaining an extensive fiber optic (sonet/DWDM) backbone which consisted of Cisco 15454, Fujitsu FML 150 Acatel 1680/1603, Ciena 3605, Acatel 1640/ Ciena METRO DWDM platforms. The switching network (Nortel DMS 500/ Lucent 5ESS) and related telecommunications equipment, use of Netcool surveillance system to monitor Cavalier’s.

Technician Responsible for the daily remote activations of CPE (routers, channel banks ext. Adtran, Vina, Cisco) with company field technicians on location. Assisted on special projects with core routers and ISP routers (Cisco 7500/7600). Tested circuit integrity (DS1) remotely on last mile with ILEC and in house with transport & switch utilizing.

Coordinate and assist in the installation of optical network equipment in the Northern California area. Test and turn-up optical circuits (OC-3 - OC-192) Alcatel 1680, 1603 for customers. Optimize the use of the Alcatel 1640 OADM for a 62 channel DWDM system. Optical network included 7 optical amplifier and repeater sites. Monitored all services utilizing.

Install and test DS1/DS3/ OC3/OC12/OC48 on a complete Cisco 15454 sonet network, coordinating with ILEC, at Central Offices. Coordinated/participated in site surveys, installation of equipment with Real Tech, ILEC, and sub-contractors for the timely response of projects. Interfaced with Network Engineering, CLEC Coordinators, and Project.

• Perform testing of transport, voice and data circuits in a Network Operation Center at the DS1, DS3 level Utilize the Alcatel 1631 DACS for testing of DS0-DS1, circuits Responsible for cross-connects in the Alcatel.
• Ensure all engineering and field service issues are resolved and complete before turn-up to customer.
• Monitored the progress to ensure on time delivery, and make escalations as needed, either with vendors, LEC, IXC and other WorldCom locations for on time circuit activation.
• Responsible for quality installations and signaling protocols, testing circuits and service using a variety of test equipment.
