Responsibilities included programming scripts using VBScript and PowerShell and creating scheduled jobs to automate backups, transfer and summarize usage information, as well as monitor key metrics to predict failures. Monitored overall health out with Ipswitch Whatsup. Migrated 30 servers into a Hyper-V Cluster based on HPE DL560 servers with HPE MSA SAN, primarily through P2V leaving a limited number of direct installations. Consolidated multiple callCenter servers and public website onto two ESXi servers. Modernized RDP replacing generic servers with HPE DL360s to improve stability and remote management. Software limitations prevented dense virtualization, so RDS service remained on 40+ Hyper-V hosts each housing 2-3 VMs with dedicated RDS and ERP installations, with 12 systems for SQL Server, and three Doubletake repositories. Service was moved to imaging based deployment of fully configured Hyper-V hosts with partially configured VMs and doubled in size. Monitored and maintained performance, handled software updates, security testing, and performed repairs as needed. Maintained climate controlled server room, UPS systems and single diesel generator. Network spanning two buildings, 15 switches, with telephony on Mitel 3300 with Analog and VoIP sets. Configured and supported versions of Windows from XP/2003 through Windows 10/Server 2016, and versions of SQL server from 2005-2018. Provided advanced support for staff, developers, and technical support personnel, as well as advanced diagnosis and troubleshooting for clients. -

Implemented policies for network systems with the assistance of the IT staff under my supervision. Acted as SQL DBA and primary internal report and stored procedure programmer using Oracle, Cognos, Crystal and Microsoft toolsets. Supervised IT staff, at its peak the IT staff consisted of six, an IT tech, a trainer, and four data management staffers responsible for surveying and maintenance of AMS data. Directed IT purchasing, budgeting, and assisted with strategic planning. Initially NLC had a VAX/VMS with a dated Novell network, an SMTP NLM, and a static website on FreeBSD. VAX based database was migrated to a TIMSS/Oracle 8i AMS system, and several years later I directed a product selection process with executive staff and migrated AMS data and operations to Avectra’s netForum. Migrated website into a CMS based on Cold Fusion and later to a hosted dotNet based CMS. Programmed tools and scripts to migrate AMS data and integrate AMS with the website and several outside vendors through a datamart and scheduled FTP push/pull. Email was migrated to MS Exchange 2000/3/10 and finally moved to a hosted Exchange email provider. Supported a Nortel phone system and conducted product selection for a VoIP based phone system to replace it, selecting a hosted VoIP provider and a system based on Cisco phones, dedicated Cisco routers and dual T-1s for voice traffic. Deployed multiple sets of servers and workstations on a phased schedule using a variety of imaging tools including open source tools MS Tools, as well as the Altiris DMS toolset. On departure servers were based on Microsoft platforms/tools including Windows server 2008 R2, Microsoft IIS, Exchange, SQL server, and MS SQL reports. Most servers virtualized under VMWare ESX 3.5. Website, Email and VoIP phones were fully hosted, and a plan was being developed for hosting AMS. -
