Autobooks is a financial technology company that produces payment and accounting software which integrates into online banking platforms. The product allows financial institutions such as banks and credit unions to add a new level of service to their small business clients, and continue to compete in a rapidly changing market. Responsible for mostly hands-on design and development work for a small start-up company using the Microsoft web development stack of ASP.NET, C#, VB.NET, .NET 4.5, Web Forms, Web API 2.2, SQL Server 2014, and VS 2015. Other tools included Bootstrap, Kendo UI, Git, Azure, and Jira. Scrum methodology followed with 1 week sprints.

Jul 2017 - Oct 2017Architect for bids and proposal work for a U.S. Department of Defense project. Assigned Interim TOP SECRET security clearance. Performed research and built prototypes given the following technology: the Microsoft web development stack of ASP.NET, C#, .NET 4.5, MVC 5, Web API 2.2, Entity Framework 6, SQL Server 2014, and VS 2015. Also evaluated AngularJS 2 and Bootstrap. The development environment used SVN (AnkhSVN / TortoiseSVN), Jira for project tracking, and followed an Agile Scrum-like software development methodology. Other tools included Crucible, Fisheye, and Bamboo. Project was in early stages: evaluating technology and building POCs, helping define requirements, performing estimates, and guiding technical decisions. Jan 2015 - Jun 2017Architect for a multi-year modernization project to improve operational efficiencies around the labor management processes for a large rail transportation client. The new system replaces a legacy COBOL and DB2 system with a Quintiq-based solution. Quintiq is a COTS product designed specifically for solving business planning and optimization puzzles. The implementation in this case focuses on logistics and workforce planning. Quintiq follows object-oriented design principles and uses a proprietary programming language called Quill that is similar to languages like C# and Java. The development environment used Quintiq, Bitbucket for source control, Jira for project tracking, and followed an Agile Scrum-like software development methodology. Responsible for research and POC work, design, hands-on development, and training activities within a distributed development team based in three separate locations (Orlando FL, Delaware, and Pennsylvania). Assigned to interfaces subproject for systems integration via RESTful JSON interfaces, encrypted XML/CSV file-based interfaces, DB2 and SQL Server databases, IBM WebSphere MQ, SOAP, and MuleSoft.

Managed a large distributed development team for a yearlong project to merge two legacy reporting systems into a new core company solution based on an in-house web reporting framework called Si2. The development team was based in the following offices: Detroit, MI; Long Beach, CA; and Reading, UK. The project spanned eight time zones and for a majority of the project had a staff of eight developers and two development managers. Managed five direct reports, so responsible for timesheet and expense approvals, performance reviews, career goal setting, and mentoring for these employees. Also managed a development manager in each remote office, who in turn managed their own development teams. Development environment used TFS 2012, Source Control, and SharePoint portals, focusing primarily on the Microsoft web development stack of ASP.NET, C#, .NET 4.0, SQL Server 2012, and VS 2010. The team followed a custom Agile software development methodology that was very similar to Scrum.

Contract work at UnitedHealthcare in Southfield, MI. Member of development team in Interactive Design Services (iDS) group, working partially out of my home office in Macomb, MI (40%). Web delivery for consumer, provider, and physician support. Primarily responsible for responsive web design focusing on JavaScript development and client-side frameworks like jQuery and Bootstrap; also working with Adobe CQ5, JSON/REST web services, JSP, Java, HTML5, and CSS3. Scrum methodology followed and SVN used for source control.

Member of development team for an online coupon system, working mostly from my home office in Macomb, MI (95%). Technologies used: ASP.NET MVC 3, C#, .NET 4.0, Oracle 11g, SQL Server 2008, nHibernate, Spark, Silverlight, jQuery, log4net, NUnit, VS 2010, TFS 2010, and Source Control. Scrum methodology followed with 1 week iterations. Primarily responsible for new development, maintenance, and support on existing Microsoft web technology based system. Additional work in web services with SOAP and JSON/REST implementations in Java and Node.js hosted at Amazon, performing development on Mac OS X Lion.

Billhighway is a cloud-based platform that helps nonprofit organizations manage their finances by integrating payment processing, online banking and accounting all in one system. Member of development team focusing on the Microsoft web development stack of ASP.NET, C#, VB.NET, .NET 3.5, SQL Server 2008, and VS 2010. Development environment made use of TFS 2010 and Source Control; Scrum and TDD processes followed.

Worked on a complete re-architecture project of the company’s web reporting framework while reporting to the company’s enterprise architect. Led a team of five developers and additional team members as appropriate, including solution architects, subject matter experts, and quality assurance testers. Developers were direct reports, so responsible for timesheet and expense approvals, performance reviews, and career goal setting for these employees. Followed TSP/PSP software development methodologies under direction of coach from SEI. Previous experience with Scrum, MSF Agile, and RUP as additional processes. Development environment used TFS 2010, Source Control, and SharePoint portals, focusing primarily on the Microsoft web development stack of ASP.NET, C#, .NET 4.0, SQL Server 2008, and VS 2010. Responsible for project management, architecture, and development work with roughly an equal split between these activities. Also responsible for presenting project planning and status reports to upper management. Various tools were considered for inclusion in this framework, including Pentaho, Jaspersoft, LogiXML, BIRT, ASP.NET MVC Framework, jQuery, NHibernate, and ADO.NET Entity Framework. The framework also required integration with Google and Bing maps for some reporting features. Some design goals of this project included supporting mobile devices, tablets, multiple browsers, and non-Microsoft technologies such as Java and Oracle. Prior experience managing distributed development teams (example: Long Beach, CA; Detroit, MI; Frankfurt, Germany; and Munich, Germany offices all working on same project) and offshoring work.

Contract work, primarily for Ford Motor Company. Other clients included GM, ITT Industries, SES (Simplified Employment Services), and Phoenix Group. Bulk of projects dealt with classic ASP / VBScript, VB COM, and SQL Server development. Other projects involved Perl, SSJS, ColdFusion, and/or Oracle.

Contract work, exclusively for GM. Performed statistical analysis of data for GM environmental engineers. Designed and developed several Access 2.0 databases with forms and reports for GM, and also Engineering Lab’s static external web site. Passed first series of exams for state Professional Engineering (PE) license and attained Engineer in Training (EIT) status.
