Mabroukie Factory, Koruma, Jamji, Tagabi, Chagaik And Kimari Factories

Being very keen and passionate to attain as much tea and managerial knowledge, I was fortunate enough to work in several factories and departments. This enabled me to acquire several skills e.g ability to work with different bosses, ability to adapt to changes and different environments. I have managed to lead teams working on various company strategies, lead a job evaluation and rationalization exercise for factory staff, restructuring and redeployment of staff, Upgrade and machinery improvements in factories, rationalization of factories and capacity utilization, Training of factory employees, influencing & mobilizing staff and employees to adapt new and modern methods. Lead in introduction of HACCP and Traceability systems when it was introduced in the company. I was also fortunate enough to roll out standardized tea tasting system in all factories with use of standardized milk and deionized water. I managed budgeting, financial controls and profitability of the units. I participated in projects to shape and align company strategies and its visibility in the global Unilever map.

Mombasa

Unilever Tea Kenya had a subsidiary Sales & Marketing company based at Mombasa city. Mombasa city is where the main international tea auction centre is situated. This is where all the East African countries do sell their teas destined for local and international markets on weekly basis. My key responsibilities were: Warehousing activities, receiving & reconciliation of teas arrivals from Unilever tea factories in Kericho & Limuru, Sampling & Distribution to buyers, Cataloging, Tea buying from auction, Tea tasting, liaison with tea brokers, Tea direct sales, Customers & Consumer trending, training of the estate/factory management staff on sales activities, company profitability and its presentations to the board of directors, Innovations and analysis of consumer preferences.

Unilever Tea Kimari Factory

Kimari factory is one of the 8 factories of Unilever Tea Kenya and situated in Kericho division. My responsibilities were namely: Supervisory and Managerial roles, Tea processing, Tea tasting, Labour and Industrial relations, information flow and its security, employees salaries preparation and payment(Cash system), tea processing trials, Finance and accounting procedures, Fixed Assets management, links with sales department and follow up of customers and consumers needs.

Kenya

Unilever Tea Kenya is one of the leading multinationals with the largest tea estates and factories in Kenya. It has several demarcated units which each on average is about 1000ha under tea bushes, Eucalyptus, housing and recreational which are referred to as Estates. I worked in several Units/Estates and my responsibilities included but not limited to: Supervisory and managerial roles, Tea Nursery for tea seedlings, Land preparation and Tea planting, Tea bush management, husbandry and all good agricultural practices, Supervising tea plucking and personnel, in-charge of green leaf quality, optimum transport systems for green leaf to processing plants-Factories, clonal research and selection, Accounting and finance management, Corporate Social Responsibility, Industrial labour relations, Employees annual targets setting and appraisal, Liaison with Government regulatory departments and administration, company strategic planning and company corporate image.
