Research Assistant (Gsra)University Of Michigan, Department Of Electrical Engineering And Computer Science Sep 1998 - Apr 2005Kensall D. Wise GroupStudent in the Center for Wireless Integrated MicroSystems under the direction of Professor Kensall D. Wise. Research focused on using Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) technology to integrate sensors, analog circuits, microprocessors, and memory into tiny microsystems for acquiring and storing biological and environmental data. The technology was first applied for very small instrumentation “backpacks” for biomechanics and neurobiology studies on Madagascar hissing cockroaches. Later, the system was further miniaturized and integrated with MEMS transducers for temperature, pressure, and humidity sensors and silicon microprobes for monitoring neural activity. MEMS and microsystems contributions included development of novel air-isolated through-silicon vias, automated solder-based micro-connectors, and a micro-machined silicon platform for compact integration of MEMS sensors and analog and digital circuit chips.
