As the Chief of Staff at Detroit Fire Department, I consulted on the strategic planning, budgeting, and operations of one of the largest and busiest fire departments in the nation. I worked with the Fire Commissioner, the Mayor's Office, and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality emergency services and fire prevention programs to the residents and businesses of Detroit.

Commanded the Office of Professional Development, which includes management of Human Resources, EEO, DEI, Recruiting & Hiring, Training, Disciplinary Administration, Risk Management, Policy Development, and Lean Process Improvement.Directed the patrol, detective, and support functions of the department, coordinating with multiple layers of management to establish a culture of communication and accountability.Developed a successful partnership with the Detroit ATF to establish the Detroit Police Department as a Crime Gun Intelligence Center and NIBIN site, eventually becoming one of the most productive in the nation. Conducted a variety of employee relations tasks, driving performance evaluations for the command staff, adjudicating discipline matters at termination appeal hearings, and participating in union negotiations.Successfully led the planning, administration, and management of promotional examinations and assessments of 1,200 department members for the ranks of Detective, Sergeant, and Lieutenant.Routinely interacted with media in a public relations capacity, mitigating risk for the organization and city by effectively communicating facts and responding to inquiries accurately.

Delivered executive-level management of the Detective Bureau, coordinating operations for Precinct Detective Units, Major Crimes, and Organized Crime in responding to Homicide, Special Victims Unit, Narcotics, and Auto Theft incidents.Served as Chair of the Department’s Crime Control Strategy Committee and led a team that developed a state of the art crime center that operates in real time utilizing the most current technology available to analyze and combat crime throughout the city.Successfully managed the implementation and deployment of Shotspotter to six square miles in the city of Detroit, gaining support from the mayor and city council, later expanding to over 25 square miles of coverage.

Led departmental in-service training programs, designing, implementing, and managing a training curriculum that secured compliance with relevant consent judgment paragraphs outlined by the U.S. District Court.Led the Violent Crime Unit, where I managed and conducted complex criminal investigations, including conducting research, interviews, and consulting with prosecutors, resulting in prosecutions in both state and federal court. Subject matter expert on the design, development, and implementation of the department’s early intervention system, known as MAS (Management Awareness System). Personally trained 500 department supervisors and managers on the effective use of the system.Spearheaded a staffing reorganization project designed to reduce daily call backlogs, applying data-driven insights to allocate resources and shift more than 100 officers based on specific area support needs.
