As the Founder and Director of Sternberg Science Camps+ at Fort Hays State University, I have established and grown a successful operation that delivers inquiry-based science education in virtual worlds, field settings, and classrooms. With over 10 years of experience in this role, I have designed and managed budgets, staff, curriculum, logistics, fundraising, marketing, branding, and partnerships for the program, reaching diverse audiences and stakeholders across the globe. Operational quality rivals comparable programs at universities orders of magnitude larger than FHSU, with students often returning for many consecutive years before heading into college. My 2024 operational budget is on track to surpass $200,000 (up by over 2x since 2022), with programs being operated in six different states and employing 19 educators on program teams.I am also a web3 developer and the lead creator of BioGeoVerse, virtual worlds focused on immersive natural history education. I have collaborated with research and instructional staff to build and innovate these virtual worlds using Tiled and GatherTown, and to research the market fit for new potential products. Additionally, I have leveraged my expertise in paleontology and virtual education to chair the annual virtual conference of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology, which had over 250 participants in 2023 and featured various synchronous and asynchronous activities and presentations.My mission is to increase accessibility and equity for all learners and professionals to reach their full potential through rich, immersive interpersonal learning experiences. I am passionate about innovating skill-centered learning opportunities in paleontology, biology, and geology, and building skill-diverse teams to run experience-focused learning programs. I also care deeply about establishing and maintaining a brand of academic and experiential excellence across diverse audiences and platforms.
