• Provides the leadership, strategic direction and management of the power generation group within the SPS area of Xcel Energy. SPS area has 4,360 MW of coal-fired plants, gas fired and combustion turbine plants and 415 employees to operate and maintain the equipment.• Develops performance enhancement strategies and plans for implementation by the Xcel Energy Generation leadership team, consistent with the Business Unit Strategic Plan. • Provides visible and consistent safety message throughout the region. Works on national teams to reinforce the safety message in the business unit.• Oversees and manages a $70 million O&M budget and a $67 million capital. Establishes work priorities that have multi-million dollar revenue and expense affects on Xcel Energy. Balances long-term operational investment needs against the near-term impacts of budgets and earnings.• Manages, interviews, hires, trains, coaches, counsels, conducts performance reviews, and disciplines employees within the SPS Power Generation group. Develops future leaders via formal and informal means. Directs the implementation of employee developmental and training plans to ensure employees have the skills and experience to perform their jobs appropriately and safely and in compliance with governmental regulations, corporate policies and procedures.• Ensures the collection and analysis of operational data that is utilized across the Xcel Energy generation fleet for development of standards, Best Practices, and technical transfer of Lessons Learned. Benchmarks Xcel Energy information against best in field and incorporates practices beneficial to Xcel Energy.

This 1,130 MW coal-fired plants and 448 MW gas fired plants has 137 employees.• Administration of policies and procedures that ensure compliance with regulations, safety, contracts, and labor agreements. • Responsible for O&M budget. Develop long-range goals of the power plant, implementing cost reduction and revenue enhancement by modifying operations processes and capabilities.• Ensure compliance with OSHA, hazardous materials/waste requirements, and keep abreast of current laws and regulations. , set record on days without OSHA incident 447+ days and counting• Represent Xcel Energy’s interest in contact and relationships with suppliers, contractors, industry/professional organizations, and the public, while maintaining high ethical standards at all times.• Maintain hiring, promotion, and employee training and development practices in compliance with Corporate Affirmative Action/EEO policies, consistent with organizational goals and objectives. • Special assignments: Negotiations with Local IBEW 602 Union; Lead the Texas/New Mexico Availability team; Texas/New Mexico Budget Team; ES Coal Task Force Team; ES UOR Team and Energy Supply Operating Benchmarking Model team member.• National Safety Committee member and Regional Safety Committee Chairperson in charge of providing leadership and support in the area of safety for the Energy Supply employees at SPS power plants.• PRB Coal Users’ Group Coal Plant of the Year 2010
