I am an Applications Engineer with the Ultrasonics Technology Division of Progress Rail. As Lean Manager, I help to implement corporate standards into the local facility. Local standards are also developed in an effort to avoid waste and improve overall plant efficiency. The overall goal is to build teams from management down and to implement a Lean attitude throughout the facility.

I work on capital projects and provide floor support for welding and chrome plating operations in the production of hydraulic cylinders. My support for welding includes developing welding procedures, overseeing qualification of welds, and assisting operators with troubleshooting of welding issues. My support for chrome includes researching and implementing best practices for chrome plating and procuring materials and supplies.

I work on capital projects and provide floor support for various machines within the plant. Machines I support include roll formers, presses, complex dies, robot welders, and complex resistance welding machines. I provide support for the mechanical components and electrical components for all of these machines. My support role includes troubleshooting dies, robots, and programmable logic controllers. I am also involved in several capital projects ranging from new equipment builds to machine improvement modifications.

I was a member of the prison door engineering group. I designed and wrote work instructions for manufacturing to fabricate prison doors. Towards the end of my career at Willo, I became the lead for the door engineering group. I was responsible for door design as well as production planning based on a master shipping schedule. While at Willo, I also coordinated ASTM testing for prison grade doors. As a door engineer, part of my job included developing ways to save money on materials and supplies.

Main responsibilities included maintaining company metrics, tool design, and improving the overall manufacturing processes. Maintained processes on the shop floor to ensure proper operations and product quality Developed processes to decrease cycle time and virtually eliminate the processes o Process was developed to be completed while an operator waited for another machine to finish virtually eliminating the process (projected annual savings were $250K) Initiated a preventive maintenance program to help eliminate machine down time Responsible for updating cost routings in the IBM AS/400 database used by Parker which entailed changing costs, adding processes, and adding parts to the database due to engineering changes Performed 5-S audits of the shop floor on a monthly basis Assisted in laying out a shop floor for a sister plant in China using Lean fundamentals as a guide o Included choosing equipment, developing a shop flow, and deciding on the needed manpower
